Meet Gene Hall
Gene Hall has been playing in our HCF band Since early 2018. A native Texan, Gene is from Fort Worth and is a project manager for a commercial architecture firm in Dallas. Gene has played professionally in the Grapevine Opry, as well as with The Jordanaires, Faith Hill, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, the Brooks Brothers band and many more.
An ambassador for Jesus, and Highland Country Fellowship, he loves being a part of leading our body in worship each Sunday. When not on the stage, Gene is often in our Children’s area, along with others in our band, leading our little ones in worship.

Here's a little more about Gene . . .
Did music play a part in the early years of your life?
Did music play a part in the early years of your life?
Some. I think I was born with the desire to play. My mom took a photo of me when I was barely old enough to walk. I was dancing in front of the TV during Buck Owen's TV show holding a toy guitar. Apparently I did this every week. I didn’t know what that thing Don Rich was playing was, but I sure liked it. I became interested in music early, but never got to pursue lessons due to where we lived. I was in school band from 6th grade through 8th grade and played cornet. When I was 16 I started teaching myself guitar.
Are you from a musical family?
Are you from a musical family?
Not really. My uncle was friends with Bob Wills and his band members, and played a little lap steel, but no one else.
What is your favorite genre of music?
What is your favorite genre of music?
I like many types, but country music from 70s-mid 2000's is my favorite.

What do you enjoy about being a musician?
What do you enjoy about being a musician?
There's an energy when playing that you can't describe. The ability to create something from an inanimate object that conveys emotions and touches others. The challenges of learning new things and the feel of achievement when you do. The interaction with other musicians and creating/bringing a song to life. When playing for worship services, it's my way to worship/pray using my hands - giving back using the gift He gave me.

I don't have just one! LOL!
Who has been a driving influence or mentor in your life and why? (IN or OUT of the music industry)
Who has been a driving influence or mentor in your life and why? (IN or OUT of the music industry)
My Mom, Dad and Granny all influenced my life more than anyone. Musically many people have been an influence - all equally important. I’ve been fortunate to have met many of my boyhood “guitar/music heroes” and in some cases, become friends.
Are you currently reading any books? Favorite Authors?
Are you currently reading any books? Favorite Authors?
A couple daily devotionals, and a book in my men's group called How God Makes Men by Patrick Morley. I love Bibles and have different types and translations. No favorite authors.
Is there a scripture that’s been a guiding influence in your life?
Is there a scripture that’s been a guiding influence in your life?
There are several that might fall into that category, but Isaiah 55:8-9 seems to have been most impactful from the first time I read it, as it tells me that even if God explained something to me, that my feeble human mind couldn't understand it. I need to just trust Him, have faith in Him, and know He loves me and is in control.
What gets you up on Sunday morning?
What gets you up on Sunday morning?
HCF! I’ve been in church my whole life. Was saved as a young boy. I have never been to a church like ours! It’s my favorite place to be with my favorite people. The best Bible teaching I’ve ever had!
Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert or extrovert?
Many would be surprised, but I am an introvert.
Favorite Food?
It's a tie between a great cheeseburger - not fast food, and chicken fried steak with lots of cream gravy on top, of course. My favorite place to eat either one is Fred’s Texas Café in Ft. Worth. Yes, I’ll go that far for a good burger or chicken fried steak.

I enjoy playing my guitars, reading, and watching music gear reviews on YouTube.
What is one message you would give to someone starting out as a musician?
What is one message you would give to someone starting out as a musician?
Try to be exposed to as many types of music as you can. Even if you don’t like that type, there are things that can be learned from it. I know you asked for one, but equally as important is understanding you will never master your instrument(s). There’s always something new to learn or improve. I love that part still.
We hope you've enjoyed learning a little more about Gene Hall. Stop by the stage after church and say "Hi" to Gene. He'd love that.
