Meet Brian Davis

HCF's Director of Technology, Brian Davis, has been on our team for three years. A veteran of church worship service production, he brings years of experience in producing media for worship settings. Besides producing our worship services, Brian also handles our communications design needs and other ministry support. Brian is married to Julie, who is our Office Administrator. They have three adult children, and 4 grandchildren, whom they see every chance they have. Brian can usually be found on Sunday mornings in our tech booth in the back of the worship center.

What got you into ministry?

After college, I thought maybe I’d end up in the music industry, working in recording studios. But God had other plans for my life. He led me, and has for the most part kept me, in church ministry and A/V technical production. A place, by the way, I'm so glad to be.

What has been a guiding scripture in your life?

I have grown to love the book of Proverbs, and the other wisdom books of the Bible. They are very practical and offer guidance for how we should live our lives. A favorite passage is, “Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, New International Version)

Favorite authors?

I appreciate biographies, history, fiction, and all things Texas. I usually have a book of flyfishng essays not far from my night stand. My favorite authors include David McCullough, John Graves, Harry Middleton, Eric Metaxas and Erik Larson.

What music do you listen to?

Because we can buy music one song at a time, I have become fairly eclectic in my musical taste. Old country, 80’s and 90’s Christian music (Amy Grant’s “Straight Ahead” album is maybe my all-time favorite). Mercy Me, Rich Mullins, Ronnie Milsap, Alison Krauss, Meredith Andrews, Laura Story, and Amy Grant are among my favorite artists.

Who has been a driving influence or mentor in your life?

Different people have mentored me in different ways, and in different seasons of my life. I've had some wonderful examples.

Larry Shields imparted a love of music, in particular, lyrics.
Andy Benz conveyed to me the importance of serving others.
Arlano Funderburk showed me what it means to be generous and to pour your life into another.

I realize you may not recognize those names. God does.

Introvert or extrovert?

I’m sort of in between. Introvert, but with a few extroverted leanings. I do re-charge better in solitude.

Favorite food?

That’s easy, it’s steak.

What one word best describes you?

Friendly.

What do you do to relax?

Woodworking, photography, fly-fishing and fly-tying.  I will say, however, that tying very small flies can also be very un-relaxing!

What gets you up and moving on Sunday morning?

A long time ago I read a short poem by the late Dana Key, entitled "Communication."

There came a technological lion with a deafening roar
I heard a King and a kingdom knocking at my door
I saw a selfish spirit turn wise men into fools
I found a timeless message and joined it with a tool

Leveraging technology to further the kingdom of God and to help disciple people is what motivates me.
Brian would love to meet you!  Stop by the tech booth after church and introduce yourself.
