Meet Debbie Miller

Debbie Miller hails from Baltimore, Maryland. She has been in Texas for almost 40 years years and joined the HCF staff in 2021.

Each Sunday, Debbie and her team give our children a biblical foundation as they learn about God and the hope we have in His Son, Jesus Christ. Here's a little more about Debbie.

What got you into ministry?

I can’t really explain it outside of God. It just happened through conversations with Kyle that I had taught and tutored for years and would love to help ‘whoever’ started the ministry back up after Covid. It surprised me more than anybody that it would be me!

What has been a guiding scripture in your life?

Proverbs 3:5-6. It's my life verse. As a new believer I was drawn to the part that says, "Do not lean on your own understanding." What a relief that I could start my new journey by trusting Him first!

Favorite authors?

David McCullough’s historical accounts hold a special place in my heart, as well as fiction and non-fiction about World War II. I also have a soft-spot for good westerns like the ever-classic Lonesome Dove series. When I study theology, I check out J. Vernon McGee’s works, a DTS graduate, I might add.

What music do you listen to?

Eclectic is an understatement with my taste in music: Josh Groban, Van Morrison, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Glen Campbell, just to name a few. Plus, I love going to the Dallas Symphony Pops series each season.

Who has been a driving influence or mentor in your life?

Now, the clearest answer here is the Holy Spirit. But Bill Counts stands out as the man who has been the biggest influence in my Christian walk. His exposition of Scripture propelled my faith, and made it alive, along with pictures, diagrams, and movie clips he would slip into his sermons. His message of grace was amazing!

Introvert or extrovert?

Introvert. I definitely need my quiet time to recharge.

Favorite food?

Steamed hard crabs laid out on newspaper would litter the dinner table if I ever had the chance here in Dallas. Seafood brings me back home to ‘the land of pleasant living’ – Maryland, where I was raised. But it comes a little bit easier when you are near the coast or beaches, which double as my favorite places to be.

What one word best describes you?

Loyal. I am fiercely protective and supportive of my relationships with family and friends, inside and out of the church. God has blessed me with such loving, devoted people throughout my life.

What do you do to relax?

I love spending time with my energetic pup Jordan, being near or on the water, and sharing a favorite meal with a small intimate gathering of family or friends.

What gets you up and moving on Sunday morning?

I have found my perfect vocation in my work here at HCF. Teaching children about Jesus?! It really doesn’t get any better than that. I am so grateful that in my retirement years God stoked the fire in me again.

Debbie would love to meet you, so stop by behind the barn door and introduce yourself. (And ask her how to pronounce “Baltimore”.) If you would like to know more about serving with our Children’s Ministry, click the button below to contact Debbie.
